Our Science in the Schools project raises money each year to donate science equipment to one middle school in Linn County. Teachers select equipment which will create an exciting exploratory learning environment that facilitates development of critical thinking skills.

Middle school teachers in the science, engineering, or computer science programs are eligible to apply for the grant. Teachers may apply for a grant up to $1,000 for new equipment.

Humanists of Linn County envision a world where science, reason, critical thinking, creativity, and compassion guide both public policy and personal accountability. By supporting and enhancing science education in public schools we are carrying out our mission.

2020 will be the fifth year we have provided science equipment to a middle school. In 2016 we provided $1,000 to the science faculty at McKinley Middle School. In 2017 we provided $1,000 worth of science equipment to Roosevelt Middle School. In 2018 we provided $1,000 to the computer science and engineering program at Wilson Middle School. And in 2019 we provided $800 for classroom equipment in Prairie Point Middle School.

The application for the $1,000 grant will be made available in the coming months on our website. We excitedly await choosing a middle school in Linn County that looks to augment their science curricula for the benefit of their students.
